A little about my Boxing/training career.

A bit about me so the other little blogs tie in .

I am working on a mental health one but for now it's just me .

I hope you enjoy it -

I am the owner of Trench for all the new followers to our page and our new members.

I really appreciate the support as always.❤️

I really couldn’t do this without our fantastic coaching team.👌🏼

My name is Gordon Brennan .

I am 40 years auld , 41 in August .🤮

It isnt actually that sore and I’m honoured to be here living this life after a few bumps in the road .😘

I got sent to Boxing at 10 because I was a wee shite and kicked out of 3 schools .

I also had a social worker , he took me swimming and bought me stuff so I sort of took the piss and it never really helped me personally.🤷🏻‍♂️

My mums cousin Jackie ran Dunfermline Boxing Club.

I remember getting dropped with a body shot on my first night….. boom down on my knees.

Never felt pain like it even though I was fighting at school most weeks.😂😂😂.

I’m sure my mum and Jackie planned this 🤪

Anyway I was boxing , playing shinty and then started Rugby in High school.

I was never naturally gifted but I was very stubborn and gave it 100%. (Not much has changed I hear my family saying)

I quit boxing a few times until I was 14 and had my first Amateur fight for Dunfermline.

I quit all the other sports to focus on Boxing.

I got stopped with a broken nose from a

McAllister from the famous Granite City.

(Lee and David still slag me to this day getting beat off their cousin 😂)

I lost my second fight against Billy Moore from Perth in a Scottish championship final.

We went on to fight about 6 times over the years then became team mates on a few Scotland select teams.

My amateur fights came thick and fast.

I prob lost 15 out my first 30 fights but it was an apprenticeship in they days ahhh😜.

I boxed some fantastic fighters in my career and made friends for life.

I left Dunfermline and moved to Sparta in Leith when I was 18.

I had also fought and beaten 2 of their best light heavyweights .

Scott Forsyth and Alan Moran (again boxing at least 6 times and in a few Scottish finals to lose it each time on points to Alan. I’m sure it’s about 3 each now )

I always bottled it on the big occasions back then but the wee local shows with no pressure I could switch it on 🤦🏻.

During this time I started Kickboxing for Carnegie in Dunfermline under Garry Wilson and Scottie Travers.

I was doing both sports at the same time and my fitness improved with the kicks.

I had 9 or 10 fights and won them all.

My boxing background was key.

I then fought the very experienced Simon Peverly for the British pro 80kg title .

I dropped him twice in the second but he came back strong and hurt me with some of the best body shots I’ve ever felt in my career.

I managed to dig in and get that Win😳🤪.

British Champion Babyyyyy ....,💪🏽✌🏼

I then went into a kickboxing last man standing competition and won the first fight at heavyweight 🤦🏻fought the home favourite , a Muay Thai fighter , in the final and got robbed for the European title. My good mate Lee Davis just phoned me and said your fighting next week in Liverpool fatty - I said no problem mate. IDIOTS🤣🤣🤣

I also got invited to the world championships in hungary on the back of this fight but a later broken jaw boxing made me retire from kickboxing . Gutted I never went for that world title as I was a very capable stand up fighter.

Wee fat Gogsy could kick over 6ft high.😎

I’ve trained in Muay Thai & BJJ for a long time but just a bit of fun and never really consistent enough to compete……. Yet!

Anyway - I stayed with Sparta for 6 years and I only lost a couple of Boxing fights in all that time.

I lived the life and was 100% committed.

Nae Cakes - I hear you 😘🕺

The fitness was superb , running Arthur seat before class then sparring top lads for 12-15 rounds a night.

What a squad back then.💪🏽👊🏼

10 boys that could of went all the way but life takes over.

Probably the fittest and sharpest I’ve ever been in my life at Sparta.

I finally turned Pro with the same club at 24.

Training with Mike Reid and Keith Ellwood most days.

Mike was about 4 st lighter than us but would chase you for 8 rounds and smash your ribs up - all while eating your jab.Haha maniac.

Ellwood was a top level British Amateur with the best left hook I’ve ever seen in my LIFE.

Hard as nails and we had some square go’s.

I felt I reached my level and needed a new challenge.

I moved to train with the best in the country at my weight at that time.

Stevie McGuire in Glenrothes.

He had won everything amateur year in year out.

Time to be tested…..

I don’t think I landed a glove on him in at least 18 months😂😂😂. No joke!!!

The best natural fighter I have ever trained with👌🏼(Dinny tell him that😜)

I eventually learned to stop walking forwards and start slipping and counter punching.

Again we had some brilliant sessions over the years.

On 1 occasion big Stevie snr brought over undefeated European champion Gregor proksa (same guy who fought GGG for the world title)

He was over for a week for young Stevie’s British title preparation.

I didn’t have a clue who he was.

I got told - get in your doing 8 rounds on day 1!

I was loving it and on form in the gym so had a great session.

He knew I had him😂😂😂 joking aside he was good but didn’t really slip shots.

Not a patch on Stevie’s flow💪🏽😘.

I took many a second prize until I worked him out.🤮

I had 9 or 10 pro fights but never made the weight correctly. If I boxed them in the gym 2 weeks before fight night I’d have been flying .

My dream back then was to fight in Kirkcaldy Ice Rink on a sky sports event and I done that 3 times.

Never aim so low in life as I was lost afterwards.

A few come backs over the years but see that 24 year old with a bad attitude and hard work ethic he could have been special .

All these amazing highs come with an almighty low believe me.

I have been in over 100 fights. Many more fight camps & weight cuts.

This takes alot out a person both physically and mentally.

I’ve been there hundreds of times in my life so far which is why we have Trench - One thought at a time.

Our free mental health classes. 😘

These help everyone who walks through they door’s including me on a weekly basis.💪🏽

We also work with all the local Schools and deliver the award winning punch beyond project .❤️

(Nice wee plug Gogsy 🫣😂)

2011 I started a stand up fighting class in Rosyth which has eventually turned into Trench Boxing & Fitness Gym.

The truth behind this class was I couldn’t afford my monthly household bills.

I had just went back to college full time and had to make up £200 per month to break even and a baby on the way.🤦🏻🥹

Scary how dreams grow when you find your true purpose in life!

I believe that purpose is coaching Boxing & showing others that Boxing training is a winning formula in battling mental health .❤️

In Jan 2022 I started coaching with Boxing Scotland at the high performance centre in Glasgow twice a week as a fully qualified level 3 coach.

The coaching team and the fighters have been brilliant with me and each coach brings there own little twist to the sessions .

Pad work , body Machanic’s and fault diagnosis being my favourite to focus on with such high level fighters.

I also redone my pro coaching license and cornered many pro fighters , wrapped hands and looked after any cuts.

Trench is just starting to get back into Kickboxing and I’m hoping to have a few fighters out next year too.

That’s where my passion is right now - coaching and correcting you ALL to be the best you can be both physically & mentally.

It’s YOUR time !!!👊🏼💪🏽

And the story continues………👊🏼💪🏽
